Nothing like Greek wine at a good Greek restaurant, but today bought this Aiorgitiko to waive a parking fee, and thought at home without Greek food, it would pass, however, it passed with flying colours ... I thought in a blind tasting, how would a master somm figure it out, and it struck me, this is identifiable as old world, but also, it has the same long finish of high quality calamata olives. That's a first for me!
Calls to mind Barbera with riveting acidity. A bit of spice backs up mostly lean cherry flavours (perhaps with some tart plums). No catering to heavy use of oak. Not an easy wine to sip on its own, but does nicely as a food wine. Tasted April 2019.
