Love this wine!
Peppery. I get leather and fruit on the nose. Great tannins without being overpowering.
I had it with a steak with a pile of blue cheese and garlic on it. In this case the wine didn't stand up to the volume of blue cheese I had but with a regular steak and regular seasoning it would be sensational.
This wine overdelivers for the price point. It's a bit hot but is balanced and delivers great flavours on the nose and palate. This is my go to BBQ wine as it pairs beautifully with grilled meats.
Great expression of Syrah with the classic Syrahesque characteristics of black pepper, blueberry jam but not over concentrated or too tannic. The wine is bright and very food friendly.
Sure, it's marketed as a "Critter Wine", but this South African Syrah has substance beyond the label. Good Syrah typicity, with cherry and dark fruit, an herbal quality, meatiness, pepper, spice and smokiness. It's full bodied, with 14.5% ABV, but not hot. Medium acidity and very good length. Balanced and integrated, always a good value vintage to vintage. Sept. 2016.
Meaty, beaty, big and bouncy... not much subtlety or finesse here, but pretty hard to beat for the price, especially when it was on sale a few months back.
