This is 90% Grenache (known as Cannonau in Sardinia) with 5% each of Bovale Sardo (a.k.a. graciano) and carignano (carignan). It is medium ruby with light garnet hues. The nose offers dark cherry, raspberry, sage, leather, anise, and cocoa. It is a bit volatile, but once it gets some air some of that blows off to reveal white pepper, smoke, and cedar. The anise and pepper are stronger on the palate, and are joined by blackberry and almond. The body is medium-full, the acidity medium high, and the moderate tannins are still fairly chalky. Pair with roasted or barbecued pork.
