Finca Los Alijares Graciano 2009, Vino De La Tierra De Castilla

Used primarily as a blending grape to add weight to Rioja, this is a fairly deeply coloured, hefty and smooth red....
Not unlike Rioja, the wines of Tierra De Castilla in the heart of Spain are blessed with a Mediterranean climate...
Rarely bottled on its own, this example of graciano from central Spain has a wonderfully evolved, spicy, wild range...

A very interesting wine that showed a profile I would not normally associate with Spanish wines. The flavour was tight and controlled with blackberries, cassis and hints of black licorice. The tannins were quite firm, and the finish was pleasingly dry. This wine was almost Italian in style.
Very intriguing and interesting nose - anise, herbs, spice, cola, eucalyptus, vanilla and ash. The palate if firm and it finishes with a sour tart edge.
