Raspberry, spices, chocolate, and mint on the nose. It is juicy, but has good firm tannin, and is medium-bodied. Excellent value.
fruit forward bang... followed by assorted niceties
Medium bodied, this wine had some complex earthy and leathery flavours coupled with a pleasingly dry finish. This was excellent value for the money.
Along with the outstanding value, this wine offers a fruity yet astringent palate. Detected leather, raspberry and black cherry aromas. Pairs well with sharp cheeses (esp. calciocavallo) and salamis (if they contain fennel even better as it compliments so well). Holds up well to my Bolognese and when I grill beef on the BBQ.
A deeply coloured red, this Nero D'avola is medium bodied and nicely balanced. Dark berry fruit, with hints spice and a bit of tannin. Not particular complex or long finishing, but very enjoyable nonetheless. Super value for $10.95, and worthy of multiple bottle purchase at that price. Tasted Sept 2014.
