Another excellent Riesling by Cave Spring. Sourced from Cave Spring's older vines on the Beamsville Bench, this wine displays complex fruit notes (citrus, white peach, pear, apple, melon) balanced nicely by crisp acidity and minerality. There's a pleasant medium weight honeyed mouthfeel. Good to excellent length. Outstanding value. June 2014.
The 2012 Cave Spring Estate Riesling has mouthwatering aromas of sweet petrol, gooseberry and subtle lime on the nose and green + yellow apple on the palate. It is a BALANCED, medium bodied, perceivably dry, fruity wine; with crisp acidity and a medium finish. It is both food friendly and a sipping wine that still has the potential to evolve (Ep+1) ; drink now to 2022 (cork enclosure). My impression: NICE to BEAUTIFUL, 90 (Ep+1) pts – recommended for both quality and value regardless of being on sale for $2 OFF. Tasted in Jan/15.

Certainly the warm '12 vintage has given this wine a more exotic, tropical fruit flavor profile. Acidity seems a tad lower than in previous years but this is by no means flabby. Has a nice backbone of minerality. Very good concentration and complexity. I don't recall ever having a mediocre Riesling from CS, they have this down to fine art. I would nominate this wine as THE benchmark in moderately priced Niagara Rieslings. Drink or hold several years. Tasted April 2014.
