This wine is underrated by John and David. This wine is a good example of a Rioja produced in a great year. There is a fine balance of wood, spice and plumb. Yes, it is mid weight but although it does not have a long finish, but it does linger beautifully on the palate. The tannins are ripe and well balanced. What a great price !
fine balance between the red fruit and cedary oak. There are hints of pleasant herbeceousness (reminds me a bit of a left bank Bordeaux in that regard). Perhaps not a thing of grace, but fine complexity for $18. Drinking very nicely now, should hold a few more years. Tasted Feb 2014.
Wonderful lighter Rioja still going strong after 10 years. Excellent value.
Decent
2nd bottle:
Really good with a 1 hr decant, little sediment and nice smooth tannins
good
Medium ruby, not really showng much age. Nose is dominated by cedary notes and spice, with just a hint of fruit (reflecting its age I suppose). Quite round and tasty, however, with med to full body and a good lingering tannic finish. Made for food. A touch austere. Will hold a few more years, but I doubt it will reveal much more.
