The nose is a mix of pepper, spicy, black cherry and liquorice flecked with tobacco. The attack is warm and fresh with earthy, liquorice, black pepper, black cherry and savoury flavours. A solid, fresh, simple style red that is fruit-forward and offers solid value. Think hamburgers all summer.
Top favourite of mine. Every time I serve it at dinner parties, guests ask about it and purchase it for themselves at a later date. Has become a staple in my circle of family and friends.
I enjoyed this with a rib eye, but it would pair well with grilled lamb or burgers. Very enjoyable, 88/89
We tasted this wine at the winery in early 2013 (a great place to visit BTW, with a fascinating museum). We were impressed then, and happy to see it available locally at such a reasonable price. Smooth and fruity with soft tannins, it's a real crowd pleaser... we put this to the test by taking some to a family Christmas gathering, and it passed with flying colors.
Ok. Strong.
Tasted Dec 2013.
