South Africa makes some very good Sauvignon Blanc and the Neil Ellis has long been one of my favourites. The 2011 Groenekloof manages to be both ripe and juicy with great racy acidity. The flavours are that of ripe tropical and citrus fruit, think red grapefruit, with crisp herbal notes on the palate and finish. A dry, light/medium bodied wine, with wonderful texture and tension. Drink now with shrimp or scallops done on the grill. Score: 90 (Janet Dorozynski, WineAlign.com, May 2013)Critic Reviews (3)

Nice citrus and minerals on the nose with a hint of fresh bread and smokiness. Good Minerality and acidity along with apples and pears on the palate and some tropical fruit. Nice long finish.
This one was really nicely done and definitely got me excited about this style of sauvignon blanc again. It has a very pronounced nose with notes of lemon, lime, grapefruit, fresh cut grass, white flowers, and minerality. On the palate, it's dry, medium bodied with medium+ acid and intensity with those same citrus and herbaceous notes, though the fruit tasted a little riper. This was an excellent bottle and incredible value, especially after the price drop. Tasted January 2014.
