Vidal isn’t the most interesting grape (some would even call it boring), and other than being used widely for Icewine, we don’t see much of single varietals being made with it (a few exceptions come to mind – Hernder, Sue Anne Staff, etc.). Winemaker/owner Glenn Symons decided to take this common grape and add a twist, creating a sparkling wine that is fresh and fun. With plenty of citrus and fresh appples on the nose and palate, this makes a great accompaniment for appetizers or light fair any time of year. Sipping this ice cold on a patio would also be another refreshing way to enjoy. Now my favourite style in which to ingest Vidal. $20, and the “new and improved” 2012 is now available at the winery.
