A fine value meritage blend for the money here, with balanced, evolved tannins, smoky, savoury forest floor-type...
A medium bodied Bordeaux blend with substantial vanilla/eggnog notes from oak and some pretty, juicy fruit....
De Sousa was one of the early family wineries atop the escarpment in Niagara, but it is now owned by Niagara...

2011 vintage is 72% Merlot, 25% Cab Sauv, and 3% Cab Franc. Strong oak aromas from glass give way to black currant and blackberry aromas. This red wine is full bodied with chalky tannins that are integrating nicely. Sour cherry, blackberry jam, wood and hints of mocha on the palate. Has mouth-watering acidity and a long finish. Could be cellared 1-2 years. Tasted Sept/2013.

Lots of vanilla on top of dark berry fruit, but at the LTO price of $12.95 the value ratio went up one star. There's some finesse and elegance one would not expect at this price point. Decent value at regular price, great value at sale price.
