Fontodi's '09 Chianti Classico is an evidently ripe and well extracted wine, with deep red-garnet appearance and nose...

This lovely Chianti deftly walks the line between sour-edged Tuscan authenticity and fruity, easy drinking charm....

My favourite Chianti, the 2009 is even better than usual, with great fuit. Cherry, raspberry, and meaty, earthy, spicy notes, good acidity, nice tannins. The experts say wait a couple of years, but I had one last night. It drank beautifully with cheese, pasta in cream sauce. No need to wait, buy a bunch and enjoy over the next 5+ years. SAQ has it at 10% off the LCBO price ($27). btw they also have the 2009 Fontodi Flacianello at $82 (compared to $100 in Ontario, through Rogcowines.com)

This wine is just about perfect right now (June 2015). A delicious Chianti, fruity, yet layered with beautiful rich meaty, leathery notes. Enjoy!

After a few more years in bottle, this wine’s tannins have mellowed slightly - but it’s still got that high-acid Sangiovese back-bone. Fruit still very much evident.

On the nose, red fruit including cranberries, raspberry and a hint of wild strawberry. Herbs, tea leaf and cedar.

On the palate, well-structured with the savoury notes mingling with aged red fruits. Juicy from acidity, not fruit. Herbal notes linger on the finish.

Paired with wild mushroom mezza luna with a tomato-beef sauce.

Tasted March 2018.
