Pirramimma Petit Verdot 2010, Mclaren Vale

An elegant fruity red with a beautiful nose of blackberry and mulberry fruit toned by subtle oak spice and herbal...
Here's a solid mouthful of wine for fans of big, jammy, juicy, jam-flavoured reds with abundant wood and fruit...
Petit Verdot is a late ripening, higher acid minor Bordeaux variety finding new lease of life in Australia....

Dark ruby in colour with a medium+ intense nose.
Positives: Lots of good stuff happening here. Cedar, blackberries, Kirsch cherries, violets, pomegranate, cranberry, raspberries, roasted red peppers & musk. Medium+ body, medium tannins, good acidity & a long length.
Negatives: None.
Interesting Point: Pirramimma consistently has Best Buy wines in their lines.
Drink now or over the next 5 years, on its own or this will pair with a variety of different food groups from game fowl to steak.

Dark ruby and high opacity. Aromas of blackberry and vanilla. This wine offers up dark and red fruits for the palate with some toast and cedar. Tannins are dusty with 4 wheel drive traction and there's some heat on the leisurely finish. The wine has edges, but an overall integration is nicely achieved. I decanted this wine for 45 minutes and it responded with open arms for a warm embrace. It played very co-operatively in the sandbox with my beef tenderloin steak and grilled veggies. The wine's excellent value is underscored with LCBO's $5.00 discount. Grip it n' sip it! May 2013.
Quite surprised by this wine. Wonderful rich nose.
As always - a stellar wine! Although I feel the Pirramimma team made this offering more balanced than previous vintages. It's more lean and structured...I still get lots of juicy grapes, black fruits and pipe tobacco (Classic of this producer). But i feel this is a tad more balanced...anybody else think so? Are the Aussies altering their main stream style? Less jam more focus...I think so.

This was a recommendation by a complete stranger in the liquor store. Fantastic! What a surprise! The flavor in this wine is amazing. I will be looking to buy this one again
The 2010 Pirramimma Petit Verdot has intense aromas of cut hay, black currant, figs, subtle vanilla and cigar box. It is a full bodied, extra-dry, alcoholic, fruity to integrated wine, with forward acidity, refined tannins (decant starting from 30 min all the way to 2+ hours and watch it evolve) and a long, smooth and chalky finish. This wine has a mass-appeal, sip it or drink with smoked, BBQ’d or grilled foods; drink now - 2020 (screw cap). My impression: NICE to BEAUTIFUL, 90-91 pts - $5 off definitely makes this wine more attractive. Tasted May/13.
