A totally different expression of grenache syrah (80/20) than the Rasteau L'Andeol. The eight hectare, old vines (50 years) vineyard is located on the Commune of Sarrians, south of the Dentelles de Montmirail. The fermentation split between wood and tanks for one month. Black colour and black liquorice dominate the senses. The attack is structured with dense plummy fruit flecked with red currants and a dash of minerality. The finish has an earthy, gamey note with bits of coriander. The winery suggests venison, or any big meat dish to match now or cellar for a decade. 80/20 Grenache and Syrah. Open, medium-high intensity nose that offers mature, stewed dark berry aromas alongside sweet baking spices, leather, dried purple flowers & savoury wet earth, plus some dried dark berry tones. Dry, tangy, and medium-full bodied palate, the fruit is shifting into mature, dried spectrum & is joined by savoury wet earth, leather, and dried spice flavours. Has tangy, lemony acidity, while grippy textured & astringent tannins overwhelm palate. Savoury earth, spice, floral + smoky mineral notes linger on the finish, with a touch of heat at the tail end. Tasted Jan. 2025.

The black licorice was a little overbearing. I agree with John's opinion here; basic.
