Umani Ronchi San Lorenzo Rosso Conero 2008, Doc

There's a touch of brettanomyces in this wine to be sure, but it's well enveloped in a range of dark berry flavours...

Blackberries, tobacco, lead pencil shavings, and herbs on the nose. Subtle fruit and soft tannins on a very well balanced palate. Fantastic value.
I had to look up "brettanomyces". Well, there may be a little barnyard in the bouquet, but the taste is very clean to me. Maybe it is best served in a small glass. It has rich berry flavours with a an extra kick of fruit near the end. I probably should rate it a very good 89, but I am leaning toward the magic 90. Great value.
The 2008 Umani Ronchi San Lorenzo Rosso Conero has notes of cherry, lees, red currant and cedar. It is a medium bodied, extra-dry, integrated wine, with good acidity, refined tannins (decant for 15 min) and a finish of medium length. Drink with food; drink now - 2015. My impression: NOTHING SPECIAL, 88 pts. Tasted April/13.

Quite youthful, despite 4+ years of age. Dark berries fruit dominates the flavour profile, with notes of earth and herbs. A bit rough around the edges, there is alot going on in this wine for just $15. I suggest sitting on this for another year or two for max enjoyment. Tasted April 2013.
