Deep garnet brown. Fully evolved and mature, with plenty of intriguing raisined, spiced Christmas cake and mulled...
This is mature old chestnut. The colour is deep garnet-amber. The nose is very intense, leathery, earthy with dried...

Classic Rioja old world wine, outstanding taste/value
The 2000 Burgo Viejo Grand Reserva, comprised of 100% Tempranillo aged in French oak for 24 months. It is medium bodied, with intense aromas of integrated to AGED red berries (namely red currant), pronounced leather and oak, spices and faint vanilla. Tannins are refined (decant for 15 to 30 min) and the finish is long to extra long. Now is the time to drink it and it should hold for the next 3 to 5 years. My impression: BEAUTIFUL, 92 pts - definitely a recommended buy - 10 year old, well crafted wine for under $25?? Can't go wrong with that. Tasted Feb/11.

Absolutely stunning, virtually no colour change lots of old school character and all around delicious. The last 1/3 of the cork disintegrated and lots of sediment but to be expected from this 20 yr old beauty. Glad I held on to it.
Of the reds I tasted for the North of 9 'Selections', this wine did not make the final cut. That said, the next day, we revisited the bottle along side roast chicken infused with fresh Rosemary and the combination was exceptional. The wine was certainly not bad the first day but with some air and the right food, I highly recommend this old world example.
