The 2006 Montecillo Reserva from the general section is medium bodied, with nice aromas of integrated raspberry, coconut, oak and black pepper and vanilla spices. Tannins are refined (decant for 15 to 30 min) and the finish is long and smooth and silky. It is at its prime and should retain its complexity for another 5 years. My impression: BEAUTIFUL, 91 pts - a well crafted wine that I would highly recommend. Tasted Jan/11.

One of the most reliable wine in my experience, with great QPR to boot. Classic Rioja taste with good flavor and depth that is not overdoing it like too many of the modern-style Spanish wines.
Description: Med ruby with a slight garnet colour. Nose & taste are classic Rioja Reserva, with med+ intensity of sandalwood, smoked meat, dark cherries, sweet basil & carnations. On the palate, good acidity, med tannins, balanced, med body, long length. Like the nose, sandalwood, smoked meat, sweet basil, cedar, black currants, dark & sour cherry. Overall med+ complexity that you can drink now or age for another 3-5yrs. Best with food such as smoked sausages or grilled lamb. Score: 8.5/10, Value: 10/10, Total: 18.5/20. For the price this a best buy. Solid wine from a solid winery.
