Well, this wine took me by surprise. My experience with good Valpolicella from say, Masi and Allegrini, is darker and riper wine. Here, Corvina, Rondinella and company take on a different personality altogether. Light ruby in colour, it looks like PEC pinot noir with just the slightest tinge of amber. And like PEC pinot noir, the lightness belies the intensity of flavours, in this case strawberry candy, red fruits, tomatoes, herbs and black pepper. There’s even an element reminiscent of the aromas and flavours of pinot noir and I am glad I don’t have to identify this wine blind. Light to Well, this wine took me by surprise. My experience with good Valpolicella from say, Masi and Allegrini, is darker and riper wine. Here, Corvina, Rondinella and company take on a different personality altogether. I have to say this wine is aptly named. Light to medium body with great concentration of flavour, fresh and lightly tannic with nice texture fading to a slightly bitter finish. From an estate owned and operated by two sisters just a few minutes away from the historic Arena di Verona.
