Wow. I just started to taste my way through the BC Passport case. This is one unique wine. It’s closer in style to Rhone than Australia (and I would love to see this placed in a blind tasting of Rhone wines) but it’s really its own beast. Very openly fragrant aromas of smoke, leather, bacon, and plum with the emphasis on earthiness rather than fruit. Really bacony. There’s opulent GSM fruit with lots of cured meat, bacon and cracked black pepper. Did I mention the bacon? Fresh and structured with a satisfyingly long finish tapering to flavours of hard candy. Tasted June 2020.
