The consistency of the Gabbiano Chianti Classico Riserva continues in 2015 and it is becoming increasingly impossible...

Dark ruby, but starting to show some orange. Fairly reserved on the nose; suggestions of spice and earth tones. Medium bodied, crunchy ripe fruit with some tannic grip (not unpleasant). Reasonable concentration as you’d expect from a Riserva, but to my palate it doesn’t have the complexity you’d also expect and it’s not giving me the umami dance I look for in sangiovese. Decent length on the finish. Fair value, but not memorable.
Some nice juicy Sangiovese fruit here, replete with tart red cherries, with a an added dose of ripeness, perhaps thanks to the '15 vintage. Oak treatment is a bit heavy-handed, which (to my taste) detracts a bit - others may not mind it so much. A very good CCR, but one that falls short of excellence. But not a bad price. Tasted May 2020,
