Navascués Enología Cutio Garnacha 2019, D.O. Cariñena
Aragón, Spain$14.25
A delicious Full-bodied red made from blend of garnacha and cariñena. Loads of big ripe fruit and hints of herbs, not too far off a Cotes du Rhone. Picked up on sale at about $14, a steal. Not for keeping, just chill a bit and enjoy in the next 12 months or so. Tasted Sep 2024.
Evel Tinto 2019, Doc Douro
Douro, Portugal$14.95
A great value from the Douro. Dense fruit, good structure, solid finish. Fine to drink now or hold short term. At $15, hard to beat. Tasted May 2024.
Mas De Daumas Gassac Moulin De Gassac Guilhem 2022, Igp Pays D'hérault
Languedoc, France$12.75
Easy going, fruity, with notable regional herbs, light tannins. To me, the acids seemed a bit out of whack, but maybe it me that is out of whack. Good value, in any case. Tasted May 2024.
Flor De Maio Mayflower 2021, Vinho Regional Alentejano, Vegan
Alentejo, Portugal$15.95
Simple, easy to drink but ultimately forgettable red from Alentejo. About what one would expect for $16. Drink now. Tasted Nov 2024.
Casa Santos Lima Quid Pro Quo Red 2021, Vinho Regional Alentejano, Vegan
Alentejo, Portugal$11.95
Full-bodied, lots of flavour, not particularly complex but what do you want for a tenner and a tooney? Nice herbal twist to the ripe fruit, but detracting just a bit is a hint of sweetness on the finish (8g/L according to the LCBO website). Still, well worth buying for a cheap bbq wine. Tasted Jul 2024.
Château Saint Cyrgues 2022, Ap Costières De Nîmes
Languedoc, France$14.95
Whoa, this wine has loads of character. Plenty of garrigue, blackberry fruit, hints of black olives. Smooth silky tannin and a very good finish. Simply a stellar value at $15. Tasted Apr 2025.
Château Lafond Canon Fronsac 2016, Ac, Second Wine Of Ch. Mazeris
Bordeaux, France$22.95
Fully mature right banker here, with good fruit, now fading into the dried fruit spectrum, fairly high acidity and soft silky tannin. Good balance, wood is but a minor feature. Solid, well made and enjoyable. For near(er) term enjoyment. Tasted Oct 2024.
Château La Roque De By 2019, Ac Médoc, Cru Bourgeois, Sustainable
Bordeaux, France$21.95
A slightly lean (though not unripe) authentic red Bordeaux. Savoury, with herbal notes along with crisp red fruit and fine tannin. Good food wine, Drink now or hold a few years. Solid value. Tasted Dec 2024.
Jeff Carrel Les Darons 2022, Ap Languedoc
Languedoc, France$17.95
Easy going, easy to like southern French red. Not quite as good as the '21 but ok value. Tasted Feb 2025.
Evel Tinto 2021, Doc Douro
Douro, Portugal$14.95
An underlying herbal note along some spice accents this juicy red from the Douro. Some cleansing acids and just enough tannin on the finish. Quite delicious. Hard to believe that this is still only $15. Simply a great value. For drinking over the next year tor 2. Tasted March 2025.
