The 2016 Easter Cellier – 1st release
The SAQ’s latest Cellier release will be in the store March 24th but limited quantities are available on pre-release at SAQ.com right now.
Which wines are worth your interest? Both Bill Zacharkiw and Marc Chapleau were at the media tasting and here are some wines to look out for.
Both Marc and Bill loved two of the Beaujolais offered up in this release. Burgundy lovers will rejoice at the texture, depth and minerality of the Moulin-à-Vent Vieilles Vignes Thibault Liger-Bélair 2013. Same can be said for the Château Thivin Côte de Brouilly Cuvée les Sept Vignes 2014 – classic fruit and freshness. If you are looking for a Beaujo under $20, then Marc gave a thumbs up to the surprisingly powerful and textured 2011 Morgon Côte du Py Georges Duboeuf.
If lighter reds aren’t your thing, then Bill suggests the Rioja 2012, Crianza from Torre de Oña. Delicious fruit but with grippy tannin. And if you are looking for a wine for your cellar, or simply appreciate pure power, both of our critics suggest the Casanova di Neri 2010 Brunello di Montalcino – an excellent wine even if Marc notes that the 100 point score given to the wine by the Wine Advocate may be a little too generous.
We will be sending out another Cellier Alert on March 31 when the April 7th wines go on pre-sale. Stay tuned!
