Expecting 1,500 entries, best wines available in Canada under $50, three price categories.

WineAlign, Canada’s largest and most popular online wine site, today announced that the World Wine Awards of Canada (WWAC) “The Worlds” is now accepting entries for any wine selling for under $50 anywhere in Canada. The goal is to find value at all costs!   The Worlds tastings will be held in early September, 2013 in Toronto, Ontario.   Register here .

The Worlds assembles many of Canada’s leading wine commentators and critics as judges, creating a truly national perspective on wine.  The awards are expected to be the largest and most comprehensive look at wine available in Canada with 1,500 expected entries.  Our goal is to make the Worlds a modern, highly-responsive and definitive Canadian perspective on wine for use by both domestic and international audiences.

The World Wine Awards of Canada (WWAC) is open to both imported and domestic wines for sale in Canada, provided the wine sells for less than $50 somewhere in the country.  It is an opportunity for all wines sold here to show that they can compete in quality and value with wines from anywhere in the world.  Wines are judged blind which creates remarkable opportunities for unknown wines to make their mark.

Wines are tasted in three price categories based on the lowest selling price in Canada.  These are: Less than $15, from $15 to $25 and from $25 to $50. As a consequence WWAC is really three competitions in one with wines being tasted alongside their peers by price and with awards given by price category.

“If you want serious recognition for your wine in Canada this is the one wine show you shouldn’t miss,” says head judge Anthony Gismondi; “It builds on the success of more than a decade of previous awards with a new, greatly expanded, national reach”.

Results of The Worlds will be released earlier than ever to increase their marketing potential in the key wine buying months of the fall and fully integrated into WineAlign allowing award winners to be recognized during the normal process of searching and browsing our database. With over one million unique visitors in the last year, WineAlign’s audience is large, growing and engaged.  The winning wines, besides being integrated into the WineAlign website, will also be showcased in a special feature section of the National Post’s Financial Post Magazine.   FP Magazine has a readership of close to one million and represents an affluent wine loving demographic group.  Combined with the reach of WineAlign, the potential audience size for the results will exceed two million.
